Featuring Todd Terry, Graeme Park and Tom Wainwright
We've had quite a few words to write so far about the closing of Sankeys, and for us, the highlight of the closing weekend parties has to be the Hacienda event on Sunday from 2:30pm until 10:30pm. It's relevant and appropriate that two symbols of Manchester's incredible clubbing history should come together for the final weekend. Both the Sasha event on Saturday afternoon and the Hacienda event are a bit short notice. It's been about grabbing the opportunity while it's there, making the most of the time that Sankeys has left.
You might be someone aged 35 or over that went clubbing at the Hac in the 80s or 90s. You might be a younger person that has heard that older crew reminiscing about those days of nightlife glory. If you're the latter, this is your chance to build some final memories of your clubbing days in a legendary venue, to one day be middle-aged, and to be able to look back and say, "I was there. I went to Sankeys." You become a part of a fraternity that will smile with recognition when someone mentions the club's name. People will have their favoured events and DJ's. And many people will also be able to proudly boast that not only did they go to the original Whitworth Street location of the Hacienda, but that they also attended the reunions at Sankeys. Hacienda events have helped one generation to relive their youth, and another to enjoy theirs will they are living it.
As an addition to the line-up shown below, Peter Hook & The Light will be playing a New Order 'Electronic Set' live. Peter saw a Hac event as a perfect addition to the last weekend: "I'm a great admirer of Sankeys and also David Vincent, who's proved to be a very loyal supporter of The Hacienda so I'm happy to send him off into the sunset and I'm also very honoured to be asked to play at the closing party." The connection between the two clubs even goes back further than Hac events at Beehive Mill, "David was inspired by The Hacienda and used to promote there, both clubs share a lot of mutual friends and similar traditions, and both have managed to keep Manchester entertained for more than thirty years. Sankeys has always been a place for up and coming DJ's to play, they've always championed new artists in their music policy and remained on the cutting edge".
